Nadirah X aka ‘Nadz,’ independently releases her powerful new single Deep Waters.
It’s the lead cut from her latest EP, RiverRun due for release in October 2026, and it is the perfect introduction to this latest project.
It’s important to note Nadz’s love of ‘poetry’ led to her career as a rapper. All rappers are of course poets (in my estimations), but with Deep Waters, Nadz’s poetic energy is abundantly clear.
The track sets the ground for Nadirah X to swim with abandonment into latest album
No hyperbole one could imagine her lyrics in a book of poetry by Penguin as Waterstones waxes about it being the next book to buy.
So, after digressing, Deep Waters is an astute, emotive and at times slightly dark track, “I’m the one you tried to hold, suffocate with the lace.”
Awash with telling metaphors as Nadz discusses (with her usual punchiness) a relationship.
The lyrics point to a negative, tumultuous, and toxic relationship-
“treading, dirty waters, kneeling at your, alter,” “turn the cheeks too many times,” “Flags flags flags on the play.”
While the subject matter is dark, emotional, and negative, there is a glint of hope.
Lyrics point to a negative, tumultuous, evidently toxic relationship
The protagonist’s eyes are wide open, and they see the toxic relationship for what it is. That soaring (still dark) chorus and hook by Nadirah X suggests there is hope but also retribution.
“You’re in Deep Waters, somebody come get you out”-the tables have turned!
Production comes from the prolific Ned Douglas. Former Musical Director for Dave Stewart Entertainment.
As a platinum-album credited writer, programmer, producer and engineer, Ned has an extensive client list including, Annie Lennox, Mick Jagger, Simply Red, Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, Steve Nicks, and Celine Dion, to name a few.
Ned has been a mainstay of Nadirah X’s production for over 20 years fully producing projects like her album Seasons (2025).

He steps up once again on her forthcoming project offering his excellent production.
In Deep Waters he throws a curve ball as the track is driven by the distinctive flushes of a banjo. But it works a treat and makes this track stand out.
