Today we delve with unmitigated enthusiasm into the world of Japanese beat maker Daiki Kagata and his latest project ERROR.
It’s a project influenced by luminaries such as Flying Lotus, J Dilla, Kanye West and more. A melancholic dreamscape, created through Ableton Live and Moog sub37 enchants listeners into the world of the Hyogo Prefecture resident where he explores the “discrepancy between event and perception”.

Japan has always been good at incorporating other countries’ cultures; however, I personally feel that the beat scene still lacks support from the public but things are slowly improving
SP404 events are also being held in various places. In particular, a shop in Osaka called LOSER, which is curated by Mayumikiller, supports the beat scene in western Japan. She has booked names like Daedelus, Teebs, Ras G, MNDSGN, Machinedrum, and more
I named it ERROR to focus on the discrepancy between event and perception. I think there is a slight difference between the world we perceive and the real world.
I want to pursue something a little more disturbing and melancholier than simple coolness and comfort.
I thought about what I could do to do really cool HIPHOP while maintaining a Japanese identity. Therefore, I thought that something with a dark and cold Portishead-like atmosphere would be a better match than something soulful. I wanted to create a groove like J dilla and a mixed and psychedelic atmosphere like Flying Lotus.
Fumitake Tamura is a legend in the Japanese beat scene. I thought he was the engineer in Japan that suited my sound, so I asked him to do it.
I’m currently working on my second album. I hope to contact various labels overseas and release it. The sound will be more elaborate than the previous one.
